Rusty Christmas Mantel

8:16:00 AM

I'm trying something new this year...

I'm taking out only my favorite Christmas items this year
and mixing them with the old rusty things I like the best.

Year after year I put away the things I love and haul out 5 bins of Christmas decorations....

Then 3 weeks later I put it all away and take out my
favorite things again....

So this year my collection of 200+ Santas have been weeded through, and only my favorites are out....

If you look carefully you will see them peaking out from behind all my favorite rustys....

I like that everything I love is still out and that my very favorite Santas can be proudly displayed...

Not only do I love the way it looks but it is going to make it much easier to clean it all up after the holidays...

May your days be Merry, Rusty and Bright!

  1. It looks very nice! Old rusty vintage things reminds me of the past when Christmas seemed to be much more meaningful.

  2. Well, I'm glad someone mentioned the clean-up part out loud, Susan! LOL! I always have that in the back of my mind when I'm decorating because I'm the one that has to do it. That's why I think sometimes going the simpler, classic route is sometimes a good option. Your Santas look wonderful tucked in with your "regular" pieces and I think it's good to incorporate around what you keep out all the time. Especially now that I'm in a smaller place, I don't have a lot of storage room to take all my everyday things and put them away for the holidays.

  3. It seems that there are several of us working on the same wavelength here, although I am late to the party! I decided I had too many "filler" Christmas decorations that weren't things I truly loved. I've been culling! I love your Santas mixed in with your favorite things!

  7. Hi Susan ... I like your idea of making Christmas decorating easy. I have such a mess right now and the tree is not even decorated. If I take my regular decorations down, I don't have anyplace to put them so I like to mix the Christmas in with what is already there. The month is too short for all we try to do. Christmas Blessings. 8. This is what we are doing too. I hate putting away things I love just to over-decorate with Christmas stuff. This year we are adding Christmas stuff to what we already have out. A few Christmas touches here, there and everywhere is enough. In fact, we've started weeding through our Christmas stuff to get rid of things we don't really love and keep only the things we do. Love what you've done!

  10. Love! And I so agree with you! I'm about to give my one box of Christmas I have left to the thrift... I've nearly reached the point of no glitz any longer. How did that happen?!? :)
