One year and 1000 Followers!

ok well almost...
(I'm having a little trouble with the followers gadget, it has been going up and down every day.
I sure hope it makes it to 1000)

I just want to say Thank You!
For your encouragement and support!
Today is the 1 year Anniversary of the day I started my blog with this post...

Looking back at it now, that was
one rough first post! At the time I was posting only about once every 2-3 weeks. Back in January I made a very scarey but sobering discovery.... I deleted all but 2 of my posts from October through January!!!
You can read about that blunder here!

I've loved every post, every project and every sweet comment. I've gotten to know some of you pretty well... virtually that is...
I've cherished your inspiration and your encouragement!

I've hosted one Linky Party and three Give Aways... and would you believe the same person won two of them???!!

I opened an Etsy shop called
Homeroad the Store
and sold a whole bunch of things
I created and or thrifted...
(I've gotta get back to work on this one!)

Photobucket
I participated in One Month to Win It and took 3rd place!
You can read about that here, here and here!

I'm looking forward to another great year of a balanced life with my daughters, my husband, my job and my creative outlet...

Thanks again so much my friends!

Tripod Floor Lamp

Found on the side of the road this week...

Check out that tall thing in the back...
it's a tripod!

I'm psyched! Because I want to make one of these lamps...

$349.00

And here's how I'm going to do it for $13.00...

First you need a light kit...
(had one... free)

Take it apart and thread it through the hole at the top of the tripod...
add a light bulb ($1.00)...

Put the wires back together and make sure it works...

Good it did!

Next, I need a shade...
Got this one at Target ($12.00)...

Did you notice that shelf in the middle?...

Couldn't let that just sit there with nothing on it!

I think it turned out really great!
Well worth the $336.00 savings!

Curbside Crusaders

My neighbor ladies and I walk....
we walk for exercise...
we walk to chat...
we walk to get out of the house for a little while...

But on Sunday nights....
We walk for junk!

We find curbside "treasures" on our walks....

Sometimes after a garage sale,
sometimes just after a day of someone cleaning house...

We find really good things on the side of the road....

This was tonight's haul...

We think of it as our little way of saving the planet...
We bring the stuff back and re-purpose it...

Spray paint that planter??...
Put a plant in that watering can??...
and watch me turn that tripod into an awesome lamp!
Posting Monday :)

Crazy? Maybe....
But we have a lot of laughs and re-cycle while we're at it!

A Transfer Experiment

I wondered if the transfer method I used to transfer a computer image to a garden pot would work on wicker....

I started with this old wicker tray...

I had nothing to lose with this one so I spray painted the
whole thing gray with flat primer....

I printed out an image from Graphics Fairy and had my
assistant daughter help me cut it out and apply
Modge Podge to the ink side of the image...

We flipped the image over, stuck it to the tray
then let it dry overnight...

In the morning I wet the paper and rubbed with my
fingers to remove the paper...

Then I let it dry....

There was a white film where the paper was
and I got a little worried...
but I wet the film and rubbed some more....

I sprayed the whole tray with Perma Clear which made
any residue disappear completely...

This was totally an experiment and I think it was pretty successful.

I got my inspiration from the beautiful gray tray at
The Shabby Chic Cottage
Karen had luck transferring her image in a similar fashion to this wooden tray... I was happy to see I could get the same look on a wicker tray... I think the possibilities are endless...

I'm happy with the results, the image transfer worked pretty well considering it was done on wicker...

Thanks Karen for the inspiration!

Cute Little Smellies!

How adorable are these little pumpkins????

They are called putka (pudka) pods....
They are miniature pumpkin shaped seed pods from India. They are used for holiday decoration and crafts.

These are new to me but let me tell you....
they are so adorable!  And they smell great!
Like cinnamon!

The pods I bought are died orange and look exactly like little pumpkins. I've also seen them in yellow, red and green for fall decorating....

I added a photo of a black crow to this mason jar...
it makes a great Halloween photo display!

There are a zillion decorating ideas for these little cuties!
How about adding them to a wreath or stringing them like cranberries for garland?

I bought my pudka pods from
a great Etsy shop!

Enjoy my finds!

White Painted Baskets

Wisteria is showing these white dipped baskets....
 and I'm loving them...
so I got some large willow baskets from the thrift store...

wrapped some painters tape around them...

and started painting....

Then hung them on a tree to dry...

I took the tape off and touched up my "straight"
line a little bit with a thin brush.

The white bottoms instantly turned my thrift store baskets into something special...

And now they're hanging from a beam in my kitchen.

Don't those white bottoms look great from down here?

Postcard Table

Red Hen Home

did this awesome Postcard coffee table that
I just love !!

So Korrie, I'm giving it a try and I hope I do it justice!

I started with this old table I was using by my front door...
ugly!

I painted it Old White with my prize can of
Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint...
(first coat)

Sanded, distressed and waxed the table...

I printed out the postcard image from The Graphics Fairy
and I drew the image by hand...
(just don't ask me what it says...)

Then I sanded the image...

And here's the table back by my front door only
looking a LOT better!

Thanks for your wonderful inspiration Korrie!
