White Wall Cubbies

I'm liking these white wall cubbies in the PB catalog...

But I'm liking the price tag of the one I made better...

Another roadside find...
U.G.L.Y. but had much potential...

I began by removing the backing because it was a
crazy 1 1/2" thick!
Next I glued all the shelves together with wood glue.

I doubled up wood shims, cut each one to size and added them to the front of the shelves so there would be a ledge on each shelf...

Then I had to think about what I wanted to use for a backing piece...

On the last wall cubbie I made, I used fabric for the backing, this time I cut a piece of masonite to size and nailed it on...

I painted, sanded and clear waxed the whole piece with
Annie Sloan's chalk paint in Old White...

Then I nailed on some metal labels from Michaels,

I quickly hung it up in my master bathroom
before anyone else decided to snag it for their bathroom!

It was the perfect spot for it!

Moving the Craft Room!

Remember my excitement when daughter #1 moved to a new apartment and I actually got a room to use for an office and my crafts?

Well here we are a year later....
Daughter #1 is getting married!
(more about that later)

And Daughter #2 is moving downstairs...
Yes... into my craft room....

She has decided to stay home to go to college so she will need a larger room. I'm actually not too sad because I will still have a space in her old room,
it will just be a much smaller space.

Daughter #2 needs a room to have friends over that is not upstairs where we all sleep... Those of you with teenagers and not enough space in your house might know what I'm talking about....

Anyway....

Right now my wonderful husband is priming and painting the walls in my new room
(What were you thinking Daughter #2? Blood red is hard to paint over!)

So soon the fun will begin....
packing up the old craft room....

and moving it into the new space....

Luckily I had a very successful Thrift Store visit yesterday...

Two very useful craft carts...
brand new!

Since I'm moving into a much smaller place these will come in very handy!

I decided in an attempt to be more organized I will need to know what is inside each drawer so I printed out labels and attached them to the inside...

Stay tuned...

Tonight we're painting the room!

We had some Dutch Boy Paint leftover from
Daughter #3's room make-over so I'm using that!
It is a great color... Soft Terrain!

At least I will have fun re-decorating.

Nailhead Memo Board

A simple knock-off project...

I loved the simple memo board with nailhead trim from
the Ballard catalog...

I began my knock-off with 4 pieces of heavy cardboard and wrapped it with painters cloth.
White nailheads were evenly spaced along the edges...
(experience note: be careful you don't damage the paint on the nailheads!)

I added a rosette and a little metal sign for decoration...

and added a ribbon to hang the board...

Thanks for the inspiration Ballard!

Jello Bell Ornament

My Jello bell was originally featured at
Under the Table and Dreaming's

Handmade Ornament Series...

Here is the tute for the vintage jello mold bell...

First I used a tiny hole punch to pop holes all the way
around the jello mold...

I separated the crystals that were salvaged from an Ikea lamp I found, you may have guessed.... on the side of the road! Notice the jump rings... they made it easy to slide the crystals into the holes!

I attached a larger crystal to the inside center for the "dinger"...
isn't that what it's called?

And I love it on the tree!

Very shabby-vintage!

Happy Holidays!

The Stockings Were Hung....

I decorated a lot this year with scrabble tiles....

so it seemed fitting to label my
handmade stockings
with them too....

I glued my daughter's initials to a
mini clothespin...
and just clipped them to their stockings!

Now the stockings are
hung by the chimney with care...

#5 Lamp to Fancy Tassel

Lamp project #5
Fancy Tassel

This is still not the last project I make from the old lamp that I found by the side of the road....

But I am almost completely out of parts....

I do however have this little cup leftover....

I flipped it over and painted it bright green...

I found a great little package of ribbon at Michael's that had all the ribbon I needed for this project....

I tied a piece of decorative cord around
the bundle of ribbons....

and pulled it through the green cup. I added some decorative fringe and made
a beautiful tassel....

It's hanging with my rusties but it would look great
on the Christmas tree!

That's Lamp Project #5
Hope you love it!
