I won't make you wait any longer.

The third part of this china cabinet re-purposing involves painting with home-made chalked paint.
(see part 1 and part 2)

Remember the before:

Well...

First I experimented on one of the drawers I removed to be sure the paint adhered well. (a smart move!)
I mixed 2 teaspoons of non-sanded grout into a quart of black paint... and just to be sure I used black paint with a primer because the surface of this piece is very shiny.

I have to be honest, it was almost impossible to mix the lumps of grout well enough into the paint. When I painted using a small roller, lumps were visible on the piece. I had to sand between coats and to be honest, on black paint, I was not happy.

I later realized that if I had mixed the grout with a little water first I could then mix it into the paint with no lumps!

After sanding and giving it another coat with a brush

I got the look I wanted and the lumps brushed out. I don't know if the primer in the paint alone would have worked, but the paint adhered very well to the shiny surface and no more lumps.

I used a sanding block to sand off the paint on the edges to give it a distressed look.

I changed the hardware and painted the inside too!

I lined the drawers with a black floral toile.

I'm happy to say that I now LOVE this
china cabinet base, this is exactly what I wanted!

It goes with my decor, it matches my armoire table, and I'm going to have to try hard to watch TV now and not just stare at the beautiful new TV stand!
