Painting Patio Furniture

Mom's redwood patio furniture has seen better days...

Moldy, faded, and all dried out, it needed a paint job!

First we sanded to remove the mold, then
gave it a coat of Kilz oil based primer...

Next came a coat of white semi gloss paint...

There's Mom working away while I snap pictures...

With so many surfaces to paint we were sure
it was going to be a summer long project!

We were happily surprised to find out the semi gloss coat went on quickly and smoothly over the primer...
we were finished in no time.

Now Mom and Dad have a lovely new patio set to enjoy!

I'm thinking new nautical blue cushions with maybe a
striped or anchor pillow on these Mom...

Now if only I had a magic wand I'd have the picnic table
at my house magically painted white too...

That is next on my "to do" list....

  1. Susan...I have that same set. I repainted the two seat piece last year - the table needs to be done desperately but...it's a big job. I like yours the way it looks. Although, white always makes for an amazing makeover. Beautiful job...as always.

  2. I have my grandmother's redwood furniture that they had stained a rust color (that gets all over everything). I have wanted to paint them but have been too chicken. I am a little worried that my parent's will not like them! (crazy, I know). My furniture does not even go outside because of my screened in porch. Maybe i will just bite the bullet sometime and do it. That white picnic table would be cute with tose skinny center boards on the benches in blue!
Hope that your mom enjoys them!!!

  3. You really can't beat real, redwood furniture -- you did a great job transforming it. Now get to that table of yours :)

  4. I passed by two chairs and a side table just like that FREE at the end of a driveway even the same color gray. It haunted me, now it really haunts me. Why didn't I toss them in?

  5. Love the whole set! Did that magic wand work? I need a good helper like your mom. What a great team :)

  6. I recently scored an entire set, FREE on the side of the road! I need to replace the springs and straps, does anyone know where I could find them? I am not familiar with patio furniture, but I knew I needed to get those chairs, and I am excited to get crafty with them!
