A Big Pulley

Do you believe in the Power of Attraction?

I wanted an old ladder, and BANG I found an old ladder...

Then I wanted an old tool box, and BANG again.... an old tool box!

Well holy moly, I wanted a big old pulley and I stopped
at a garage sale this summer on the way to pick up my kids from the bowling alley and

BANG!

A beautiful old pulley!
Five bucks!
Now you have to understand, we don't live near any barns...
the chances of finding some of these things in
suburbia is slim at best....

But I've found most of the things I covet in those
fancy catalogs...

Power of Attraction???

Anyway...

Here is what I used the pulley for....

I had the chandelier over my kitchen table...
there is no electric, it just holds candles....

Pretty plain, wrought iron...

One day a friend discovered that a bowl would fit perfectly in the center of the circle...

Like this...

Love it there!

And now as my junk-luck would have it....
I found this awesome old pulley....

(These pictures were taken in the summer... How I wish it was summer!)

How lucky can ya get?
Maybe I should hope to find a pot of gold next!

Armoire Door Coffee Table Results

I went with Black!

I chose black not only because it was my followers most popular choice...

but because my plans included adding some stenciled words and
numbers to the door...
and black stenciling just worked with the black base...

I also added a grain sack stripe
down the center of the table...

and my favorite number to the other side...

Thanks for your help friends...

I think black was the perfect choice!

What Color do I paint the table base?

Yesterday I posted on my

Now that I've settled on a base I love....
What color should I paint it?
I've colorized these pictures to help us decide...

Would you paint it black...??

or white....?

I'm thinking black.....
but then again I do like dark wood with white....

Please help me make a decision on this table!

Thanks!

Antique Door turned Coffee Table... in progress

There is this antique dealer (or junk guy) that lives
a few blocks from me...

He is always throwing out great things!

Recently as I drove by I saw a pile of junk...
so I stopped... of course...

And it was another fabulous find!
On the top of the pile was this 5' long heavy,
wooden door!

And as I was putting down the seats in my car to slide it in...
the man came down the driveway!

Embarrassing!

He explained to me that what I was picking up from the side of his driveway, was an
antique armoire door....

Jackpot!

So... I proceeded to stuff the door into the back of my car. And no he didn't help... just talked!
I guess the pile of wood underneath was the rest of the armoire but there didn't seem to be anything worth saving. Unfortunately it was splintered and water logged.

Check out the wooden pegs that are
holding it together!!!!

So...

Now, as you can probably guess....

I had plans...

First, I went to Home Depot and bought metal pipes to use as the legs....
brought them home, screwed them on...

Nope!
They didn't look good... too high!

Next, back to Home Depot and we tried
wooden legs ...

Wooden legs and these brackets seemed to do the trick!
Once the legs were attached I painted them black...

And there we had one awesome coffee table!

Until a week later when I decided the legs looked crooked...
they never seemed to sit right and they wobbled...

So it was back to the drawing board....

And then it hit me...
I had this unfinished, green tinted,
wooden bench in the garage....

I washed it down, sanded it, threw on a coat of lemon oil and attached the top to the bench!

Perfect fit!
And Very Sturdy!

Time to accessorize with some rusty finds....

Check out the photo holder...
it was an iron plant foot...

I bent the picture at the bottom and added a magnet!

How much do I want to stencil or stamp some
"crate" words on the top or the sides of this wood????

This coffee table finally ended up to be a great junk-style coffee table!

(only now I'm thinking the base should be black...)
Please help me with the painting decision...

And check out the stenciled, painted, finished version here!

Metal Stencil Alphabet

When I go to Michael's Crafts for something
I never leave without hitting the dollar aisle....

My fabulous find today were these rusty looking metal stencil letters...
They're actually quite large, about 5 1/2" tall!

I couldn't leave the store without all 26 letters...

Not only can I use these letters for stenciling or tracing....

But they're great for decorating...
anyplace I want to add a little lettering!

I can't wait to start the Valentine's Mantel!

If you love these too, get over to Michael's fast!

Bring on the Cold!

I'm ready for the warmth of the cozy wood burning stove...

We're having our first measurable snowfall today... Weird for the middle of January around here... Last year by now we had over 3 feet already!

Beautiful clean, crisp, white snow...
(but not too much please)

I just love flickering candles burning in every room...

Piping hot coffee on a cold winter's morning...

And a toasty warm house to come home to each day...

How lucky we are!

May you all find the beauty in every day!
