How to Turn a Cabinet Door Into a Chalkboard with Hooks

The minute I saw this cabinet door I knew it could have an awesome afterlife.

The antique door was a dark old wood.

When I cleaned it I removed a ton of old black nicotine.

I feel like this may have been a cabinet door in an old bar. (I like to imagine where things may have come from)

After cleaning the piece I painted it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® in French Linen.

This picture was taken after one coat.

After 2 coats and distressing in areas that would normally get a lot of wear and tear,  I coated the piece with Miss Mustard Seed Tough Coat Sealer.

The center of the cabinet had a raised area that screamed chalkboard to me so I painted it with a coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® in Graphite.

I often use the Graphite as chalkboard paint... it works perfectly, just don't wax it!

I added these big beautiful oil rubbed bronze hooks I got from D Lawless Hardware.

D Lawless Hardware has the best prices on all kinds of hooks, knobs, handles, hinges, and more!

My order from D Lawless comes quickly and is packed carefully but the very best part is the price... better than most of the big box stores!

Use the chalkboard to write welcome or add a family name.

The next time you run across an old cabinet door think about how you can preserve the history in the piece... even if you made it up! :)

*D Lawless hardware provided me with the hooks for this project but the opinions are mine.
