Painted Vintage Baby Highchair

My Grandson needed a highchair to use at my house when he is here.

My search began at my favorite antique store where I found the perfect old vintage highchair in the PAWS shop.

It was vintage and sturdy and just plain perfect!

The only thing it needed for me to bring it home was a new paint job... and since everything in my home is a light neutral I chose Old White Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® for the job.

I was working at the shop this day so I started painting it right away, the customers always love a good paint demo and this one was going to be awesome!

Two coats of Chalk Paint® did the job and a coat of Miss Mustard Seed Wax made from 100% natural beeswax was a good food-safe sealer.

I distressed the edges of the piece with 220 grit sand paper to give it an old rustic look before waxing.

Another big concern besides the sturdiness of the highchair was that it didn't have a seatbelt....

I searched the thrift store for the perfect cotton belt with a D ring closure. The color and look was perfect for this vintage chair.

I cut the belt to the right size and attached it to the under side of the highchair seat with washers and screws.

The tray had a few cracks but once sealed with wood filler and painted it looks perfect!

The highchair is now a beautiful and safe place for my grandson to sit in when he visits Grandma :)

Not to mention that it looks great in Grandma's house too!
