DIY Decorative Hutch Window

I've wanted a beautiful architectural decorative window
for a long time now.

Create a DIY Architectural Window

I've seen them for sale in many home stores but I wanted to find a way to make one (on the cheap) for myself.

One day on my way to work I pulled over next to an old hutch with one window removed and leaning on the side of the hutch.

I got out of the car and was ready to take the window but I stopped because I thought that maybe the next person pulling over might want the whole hutch including the window, so I left it there.

The next day on my way to work, there it was again. The window was still sitting there so I took that as a sign and I grabbed it and ran.

To tell the truth I probably should have taken the whole hutch!

When I got the window home I removed the glass...

It was harder to paint it with the glass in and it wasn't necessary for what I had in mind.

I painted both sides of the piece with regular white house paint.

A few coats later, when the paint was dry, I dry brushed on a coat of a darker taupe colored chalky paint.

To dry brush you simply dip the tip of the brush into the paint, wipe some off, then lightly brush a very light coat onto the piece.

To finish off I sealed the window with a matte sealer.

I attached a thick jute rope to the sides of the window and added a boxwood wreath.

This is just what I was looking for and it was basically free!

For a different look or for seasonal decorating you can change up the wreath and add a snowflake!
