Framing a Masterpiece

This painting is hanging in my kitchen over my farm table...

It is very special to me because my oldest daughter painted it.
It was a gift for my 50th birthday....

Not only is it special because
she painted it for me,

but the painting is of my father's hands...

My daughter painted the picture on masonite so it was not easy to hang.  I repurposed these curtain tie backs, screwed into the studs, and it's been hanging there for a
couple of years now...

Today I decided it needed a deserving frame
and luckily I just picked up this old wooden bench from the side of the road.

The bench was a disaster but some of the
old wood was very salvageable...

I pulled it apart and measured the picture for the frame on the basement floor...

I used an L bracket to join the corners,
then nailed the picture to the back of the frame.

This picture is a little blurry, I'm still working on my camera settings in dim light...
Some of my favorite parts of the frame are the things that give it character...
The holes from when it was once a bench...

And the metal plate that was on the front of the bench.

So today I framed a masterpiece....

A beautiful picture of
my Dad's strong hands...
painted by my artist daughter,
and framed by me.

Hand Painted Light

My oldest daughter Kasey is an artist.
She came downstairs one morning
and said "Hey Mom... Look what I drew..."

The rest as they say, was history.....

I shouldn't be surprised when she has a great home
decorating project to share....

This is her lampshade before....

and this is the lampshade with the light on...

Kasey drew the flowers free hand on the inside
of the lampshade and painted them with an India ink marker.

Here is her kitchen...
Check out that awesome hand painted wall!

She got it all from me :)
