A Sailboat & A Mantel

First today I want to thank
Cheri for her sailboat inspiration...

and then I want to show you mine...

I made these from authentic driftwood
found on the beach... by me.

I screwed the mast into the boat, added a piece of hanger for the boom, then using an old piece of curtain, I slid the wire through the hem and tied the top with a knot.
The top knot even looks like a little pennant.

I put these lovely sailboats on my
mantel along with some other found beach treasures...

An old fishing weight...

An old authentic Marseille knot,
painted shells, and beach sand..

an old fisherman to watch over the sea...

and an old metal "something" that I found
at a garage sale and turned into
a mirrored porthole with a salty old rope found on the beach...

All together they made a great
summer sailing mantel...

Rustic Summer Mantel

My summer mantel...

Brought to you by garage sales, thrift stores and clearance sales...

A tree here...

Some coral there....

A guy named Old Salty stands guard near an old pulley...

Rusty water caps make stands for vintage travel ad candles...

A distressed white swan sits among the rusty pieces,
coral and a painted white frame...

Rustic and ready for summer!

Sand Dollar Garland

Pottery Barn had a beautiful sand dollar garland
hanging over one of their headboards.

Here is how I made my own version...

Chicken Wire Cloche

I've been thinking about what else I could make with
the chicken wire I had leftover from
Then it came to me...

I've seen Becky at Buckets of Burlap make a cloche
with chicken wire...
But this time what if I wrapped chicken wire
around the glass cloche
and kept the glass under the chicken wire?...

I lined up the end of the chicken wire with the bottom of the cloche and wrapped it around. Where the chicken wire ends met, I wrapped the wires together. I formed the chicken wire around the glass and around the top handle by pressing it to the glass.

At the top I wrapped thick wire around
 the handle to secure it.

I used a pliers to turn under all the sharp edges and I tied a ribbon around the top. I placed it on top of a white pedestal I had made from a cheese board and a candle stick.

Here it is on an ironstone plate.

Easy and adorable!

This version, with the green antiqued wooden base,
is available for sale sold on my Etsy shop: Homeroad the Store
