Cleaning Hardware with Catsup Experiment

I almost never write a post and publish it the same day...
but when my friend Jack told me to use catsup to
clean my old furniture hardware, I had to give it a try!

Chalk Paint on a Fabric Chair

To say that I am skeptical about painting
fabric with chalk paint is an understatement...

But in the name of science and all that is crafty,
I'm painting a fabric chair with Annie Sloan chalk paint today...

Antique Shoe Stretchers

We all love the old fashioned shoe thingys that we find
in the antique and thrift stores….

We make hooks and hangers from them….

But do you know that they really work?

I mean they do really stretch shoes!

Recently I bought a pair of shoes that were just a little too tight, probably because I’ve spent the summer in flip-flops…

I was trying to figure out how to stretch them out a
little bit without paying the shoe repair man.

I Googled how to stretch shoes and I found a lot of really interesting ways including putting water in ziplock bags then putting the shoes in the freezer. The ice expands supposedly stretching out the shoes….

Or how about the one where they suggest putting potatoes in your shoes…. I don’t know why and I didn’t read any further…

Then I saw a picture of a pair of antique shoe stretchers….

Hey! I have 2 of those… one for each foot even!

So I rummaged through my box of junk, pulled out
the stretchers, and stuffed them into my shoes…
and by golly they fit!

I wet the shoes with the stretchers inside and
left them to dry for a couple of days….

And what do you know…
it worked!

My shoes now fit perfectly!

They stretched just enough to make them comfy!
Go figure I thought they were just for decoration!

Pretty Scarf Organization

Today I'm talking organization...
Cleaning out that messy bedroom closet...
What to do with all those scarves?

Here is an idea that is so pretty you may just want to hang your scarves on display!

I started with a vintage hanger and large binder rings...

I twisted the scarves like they do in the stores and slipped
the ring through the looped end...

And here's the scoop on twisting the scarves...

1. Fold the scarf in 1/2
2. Holding the scarf in each hand twist,
left hand one way and right hand the other...
3. Keep twisting...
4. The scarf will twist back onto itself and
naturally fold in 1/2 again
5. Thread the loose end into the looped end
6. Add the ring to the other end of the twist.

Phew... that was a little hard to explain!

Now to wear a scarf you just unclip the ring and
untwist the scarf... no wrinkles!

Pretty and functional!

Photography - My Summer Project

The summer is mine!

My goal, other than to do a few hundred projects...

is to learn to buy a camera and take better pictures.

Scary? Maybe not...

Taking a big step isn't always easy...
will I like it? Will my pictures be any good?

This is a pretty big commitment...

but... learning is growing....

So I jumped....

I got myself a new camera...

(upon the advice of my artist-photographer daughter)

And this book...

Starting right now,
with the help of this book, some youtube videos,
and maybe a lot of questions to Donna out there...

I'm going to try to figure out how to use it...
(because I'll never sit down long enough to read the manual!)

One small step....

I think I'm in love with my new art form...

Ok, maybe not so scary!
 Happy Summer!
