How to Build a Wooden Toolbox from Repurposed Parts

I've been thinking a lot about that one last, little piece
of the 8 foot ladder that is out by the trash.

What could I make with it? I couldn't let it just sit out there.

I'm sure it could be something.

My friend Patty gave me some old weathered pieces of a wine barrel.

They'd be perfect!

I'm working today in the garage because it's pouring outside.

My garage is less than perfect for lighting and that little pallet is less than ideal for a workbench!

But here goes.

I started screwing pieces of the barrel wood together...

It was coming together perfectly!

Can you see it now?

I love old toolboxes!

I gave it a brushing of antiquing to even out the color.

I painted up the number of Patty's house.

Tied on a stamped ribbon and some twine.

And I've created another fun toolbox!

Only this one is for Patty!

Thanks for the wood Patty!

  11. this turned out great.. very resourceful! and i love the rustic look

  12. I LOVE this creative makeover of salvage pieces that risked being discarded... I am always a Savior of what most people consider Trash, especially beautifully aged Wood or Architectural Salvage... it borders on an obsession and the Family is quite certain I need Old Door/Hardware Intervention. *winks* So I had to smile about your initial comment of a normal person shouldn't be losing sleep over such projects... being normal is so overrated don't you think? *LOL*

  19. This is so great! I have a few homemade goodies to give as gifts and making these toolboxes to hold them all would be perfect! Thanks for the great idea!!!

  20. ...fico encantada com os seus trabalhos, um mais lindo que o outro!!!

  21. Your website is great! Lots of wonderful ideas and I love how you show us step by step how you do it. I'm exactly like you. I lose sleep over items that are lying on the ground next to someone's trash can. I have gone out in the wee hours of the morning in PJs and bunny slippers to grab these items on my street. My wife thinks I'm silly, but hey, I've made her many gifts from these toss outs.

  22. I forgot to add in my last post that I found several old wood extension ladders that were cut in half. I am still wondering what to make with them.
