These cute little chalkboards are created with old rulers, 

an old vinyl roller shade, and DecoArt Americana Chalkboard Paint




I created alarge chalkboard a while back and it's been hanging in my kitchen for years... I love it!



This time I'm making a couple of smaller chalkboards.
I started by cutting the window shade vinyl in 1 foot pieces and painting them with DecoArt chalkboard paint. I attached old rulers on the front and scrap wood on the back. The shade and a length of jute for the hanger are sandwiched between the wood.  
Wood glue and small tacks secured the painted shade between the layers of wood.

My advice for today is to never throw out an old wooden roller shade, especially the ones with the larger slats. 
I have made a ton of projects using just one broken wooden roller shade including the fun patriotic one today!

Today I'm creating an old schoolhouse reproduction.


I love chalkboards and I love vintage...
Today they came together in an old school
house reproduction. 

Like the roll-up maps of olden days, this chalkboard can be folded up and stored away.





I cut off a piece of an old roller shade then sanded it to give it character and something for the paint to hold onto. 

Next I painted the shade with chalkboard paint. 

I sandwiched the shade between distressed and stained boards on both the front and back for durability.
The distressed chalkboard and the weathered wood gives this chalkboard a uniquely vintage feel.





The best part is that you can remove it from the wall, roll it up, and store it away when not in use. 

I was inspired to create this project after seeing several metal ribbed pumpkins that held battery powered candles.  It looked like something I could create with repurposed pieces I already had at home. 

What is your decorating style?  
I've always been a farmhouse fan, and then just loved the modern farmhouse look we used in our new kitchen.
I'm also a child of the 70's so the Boho look had my heart and I'm happy to see that it's coming around again. 
Today I'm working on a repurposed, rustic, Boho frame for an old mirror...

Easy to make chalkboards from repurposed items are fun to make and cost almost nothing.

Today, after living with the mirror for a while I thought it could use more! 
I'm using one of my very favorite stencils and making the frame even cuter than it was before creating a mudcloth design!
