Very often I take a walk around my neighborhood and come back with a great find. Today I'm sharing several of my side of the road finds with you  and what I created when I got home.

I'm revisiting one of my favorite summer projects today!  I always love having long centerpieces on my  farmhouse table. This one was fashioned from a long 2x4 I found washed up on the beach. 

I am a beach lover! I live near the beach, I kayak at the beach, and I create art at the beach.  Today I'm using what I found at the beach to create a simple hanging fish using shells.  This is a great project for your next vacation!

This adorable garden project began in the workshop, but even before that it started many years ago in someone's kitchen. 

I was inspired by a vase I saw in Home Goods today. It reminded me that I had a huge bowl of driftwood leftover from another project this summer. 

I love using driftwood to create summer projects and my recent beach vacation was the perfect place to start.

I spent hours walking the beach and collecting driftwood on the ocean in Montauk while my husband fished.

I got a great tan and a bag-full of beautiful driftwood. 
While I was perusing the gift shops, I saw a hanging driftwood fish and knew I could create a similar one with all the great driftwood I just collected. 

When I returned home from vacation I dumped out my treasures on a table and lined the driftwood up in the shape of a fish. 

Using a very thin drill bit, I drilled a hole in the center of each stick. 

I began stringing the pieces on a length of fishing line I found on the beach.

Before we left I found a great summer DIY project on Pinterest using sand and shells in jars. If you don't already follow Homeroad on Pinterest please do, I have over 2 million monthly visitors and I pin a lot of great projects!
This was the best idea ever for a family project and makes a great take home souvenir for kids and grown-ups alike. I love the ones made by homewardFOUND. 


I started with a few clean jelly jars, a few lengths of cotton string and a card stock tag with the vacation destination and year. 

The idea is to have the jars ready to go and fill them with all kinds of beach finds from your vacation including shells, sand, rocks, and treasures.

Christmas is 12 short weeks away...



Now that I have your attention, I'm reposting a very popular ornament post from a few years ago.

My first thought was to find vinyl Christmas words online  to use for my project.
But in the end I decided to hand paint them.  
I used scraps of driftwood I found on the beach. I just love hunting for driftwood scraps on the beach.



I gave them a quick coat of white spray paint then hand painted Christmas words with a Sharpie oil-based paint marker.

I gave them a quick sanding for a distressed, rustic look.

I drilled holes in the corners of each block and wrapped waxed twine around the ends and through the holes of each block. 

I finished some off with a flannel ribbon and a DIY rusty mini clothespin.

This is a facelift to a project I did a while back.

This great piece of driftwood made a beautiful photo display.

I found this four feet of fabulous drifted wood on the beach one afternoon.

I brought it home and used a wash of watered down Duck Egg Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Then I painted the word BEACH on the wood using a paint Sharpie. 

The whole board got a coat of clear wax and then a length of thick black wire for hanging beach photos with vintage clothespins.

It is a beautiful rustic, beachy place to display summer photos.
