Creating a Valentine Banner from Old Books

Here is an easy and inexpensive project using discarded books.

newsprint flags for valentines day using old books

For a while I worked in our school library so I knew just where to find the supplies I needed for this project.

I'm giving these discarded children's books a new life.

old books, craft paper and scissors are all you need for a diy banner

I began by tearing out pages from an old book and cutting the pages into flag shapes.

Using string and my new cordless glue gun, a much loved Christmas gift, I folded over the top of the paper and hot glued it to the string.

Old books make great banners

Now for the fun part... cut hearts, use sequins, photos, whatever makes you happy to customize each flag. You can use a heart hole punch to make cutting the hearts easier.

These cute little banners can be made in any size to fit your need. A large book for a big beautiful mantel sized banner or cut tiny flags to decorate a small vignette.

I hope I've inspired you to give it a try today. Grab an old book and some glue and get started.
