DIY French Vegetable Crate
A fun DIY faux french vegetable crate!
I started out with lengths of wood for the sides that came from an old wooden CD holder I found at Goodwill.
I attached wooden shims from Home Depot between the sides.
I lined the wooden crate with chicken wire.
I had the French Vegetable Crate I've always wanted!
But I have to tell you that there are 2 very important secrets to this project...

One was the vinegar and steel wool antiquing I did to the finished crate, and second was the solution that I used to tarnish the shiny chicken wire.
You can read all about those aging techniques by clicking the yellow links above.

So now I'm loving this Faux French Vegetable Crate!

ReplyDeleteIf I learn nothing else today I will be happy because I did not know about the vinegar and steel wool. This will be great when I have to repair something with new wood.

very cute project!
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! I'm sending this to my friend who is redecorating her kitchen in a country french style! I used the steel wool technique too -- used it to age some Home depot garden stakes that I used to make a beachy sign! It is pretty amazing, itsn't it! I love the chicken wire on your project -- really adds the finishing touch as do the hinges!
