Rusty Route 66 Metal Flower Vase

Never over look thrift store and garage sale items
that may look hopeless at first...

This  old metal tin had a ripped, old fashioned,
paper label on the front of it.  The inside however had a lovely
rusted patina... I saw right through the ugliness
to the beauty it would soon be.

I peeled off what was left of the outer paper, gave it a good sanding
to remove any residue, then gave it 2 coats of Fusion Mineral Paint.

When the paint dried I pulled out one of my favorite stencils

For this project however, I didn't stencil with it, I traced it....

Using a sharp pencil and wrapping the stencil around
the tin, I traced inside the stencil holes.

Stenciling onto this round tin would have been a little more difficult due to the size of the stencil and the curve of the vase.

I re-thought the process and got the look I wanted.

Once the stencil was drawn onto the tin I used a Sharpie
Oil Paint Stick to color in the design.

When the black paint stick dried I gave the vase
a quick sanding to distress the image.

No need to seal this project with
Fusion Mineral Paint!

I'm using faux flowers in my vase pocket but you
can drop in a small jar and add fresh flowers.
