Found! One 8 Foot Ladder...

6:00:00 AM

Ask and you shall receive...
that works a lot in my junk world.
Just the other day I wished I had an old ladder and
one showed up on the side of the road on my way to work.

Problem was that in my excitement to pick it up and put it in my car I didn't realize just how big and heavy this ladder was....

So here I was, after making a U turn in the middle of the road,
trying to jam this huge old ladder into the back of my Hyundai.

With a dress on...

I finally got the ladder into the car, it
went all the way through the car and onto the dashboard.

Now I had to show up at work with a ladder on my dashboard and my trunk open because it was hanging out of the back.

(Did I mention that I am a teacher in a private school on the North Shore?)

Ok, so anyway,
I got the ladder home and tried to take the thing apart, easy right?

The ladder is riveted together, and rivets DON'T come apart!

So I ended up having to cut it apart with the jigsaw...
I had an idea for almost every piece!
I used the top to decorate the garden...

And the steps on the other side of the yard...

and then I brought the piece with the round rungs into the house...
This one is hung over my husband's dresser...
(You don't mind honey do you?)

Now I have this one piece left over...
And yes, that is the part with the rivets...

I've got my eye on that last rung...
Tune in on Monday to see where it turns up!

Check out part 2 and see what I did with the last rung!

All-in-all it was well worth the trouble!

  20. I certainly believe in the Laws Of Attraction. My most profound testimony of one was wishing I had an antique cast iron claw footed Tub. We'd looked for some & even the reproductions were out of our budget range. So I decided to meditate upon one and set the Law Of Attraction in motion... The Man was skeptical, but lo and behold a few days later while he's bouncing down a washboard dirt road out in the middle of the Desert, close to nowhere, what sits right up ahead IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD... but MY Tub... not a bullet hole in it (rare in the Desert that old things don't become target practice)... well, he was alone and practically killed himself lugging it into his truck solo... now he doesn't scoff at my belief in this mysterious Law of the Universe...
And when he came home that Night and told me I wouldn't believe what he'd just found... I just knew and said, "My Tub!" *Smiles* Faith IS the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not yet seen.

  31. I love ladders and you made this one adorable! I hope you have a great weekend.

  32. Found your blog from a Graphics Fairy Link, and had to check out this ladder post. I was thinking about using a ladder in the master bath for towels, but the ones at the flea market were more than I wanted to spend. I loved how you cut it into pieces and repurposed it in several places. Now I just need to find an old ladder to cut up. ;-)

  33. i desired a ladder too (for our bedroom wall) so i asked my mr. if we had any rickety old ladders hanging around. sure enough we did, but i had to bring in the big guns to get that thing apart (my mr. & his drill). it was't easy drilling out those rivets but we did it. half is hanging in our bedroom and the other half is leaning up against the garage studio. isn't necessity the mother of invention?!

you can see the the first half featured here:

love your rendition and also what you did with the leftover pieces, you repurposed it all!

  34. Your posts are always so creative, but also have great humor in them! I soooo needed the snickers. Thank you & keep them coming!
