Cable Knit Pincushions

These beautiful old molds...
and this chunky, gorgeous, cotton cable knit sweater...

came together to make a beautiful pincushion!

I cut out a square of fabric...

and hand sewed it in a large circle,
pulling the sting tight as I went...

When I got to the end I stuffed the circle
with cotton balls...

and tied it tight...

Then I hot glued the stuffed fabric into the mold...

  And voila!

Adorable little pin cushions...

And...
the rest of the sweater became a chunky, cozy,
pillow cover.

Antiqued Clothespins

Recently I did a post about my

I had so many wonderful comments but I kept thinking about one comment every time
I walked past the crib spring...

Well Heather... you were right! Thank you
for your inspirational comment...
This post is for you!

I gathered a whole bunch of naked clothespins ...

and dumped them into a solution of
vinegar and steel wool...

(I actually have a steel wool ball in the bottom of this jar and I just keep refilling it)

I left them in for about 1 minute...

...then dumped them onto a paper towel to dry...

And hellooooo... they look sooo much better now!
All distressed, antiqued and beautiful!

...Of course I had to go back and antique every clothespin in the house!

 Thank you Heather
You inspired me today!

Sweater Projects

Here are a few sweater projects I've been waiting to make, I had to get a new sewing machine first!

The old one lasted me 40 years and probably had about 200,000 miles on it...
I figured it was more cost efficient to
get a new one than to have the old one fixed...
Heavy duty, very simple, no bells or whistles...
it's just what I needed!

So now I'm ready to sew!
I liked this sweater a lot... it was a little big so I thought I'd sacrifice it for the cause...

I pinned out a square...

Got the approval of my assistant...

and sewed around the pins...

Then I cut out the square...

Turned the fabric right-side-out and stuffed
a pillow form inside the cover...

With the leftover fabric from the sides of the square...

I made one of these...

Actually, several... and sewed them onto the pillow.

Easy as pie!

But wait!
There was more sweater left!

The sleeve made a nice slouchy candle
or vase cozy...
Love the texture!

And the turtleneck...

made a great ear warmer/ headband for
the cold weather!

Now that was one useful sweater!

Refashioned Laundry Hamper

It started out life like this...
(and yes, it was leaning against someone's garbage can...)

I thought at worst I could use the
wooden frame for
something...

So I started out by taking off the fabric and staining the wooden frame with a vinegar and steel wool solution...

You can see it working the minute it
touches the raw wood...

(wear rubber gloves... it also antiques your hands....)

It's looking better already!
The antiqued color change is amazing!

Much to my delight, the fabric under the baby design was this beautifully textured, off white fabric...

The possibilities at this point were endless...
but I had a piece leftover from my
project, so I'm going with that...
I stamped on the #12 and attached it to the bag...
