An Interesting Table

"Hey Susan..." said the text...

"I found an interesting table for you!"

Curb alerts! I love them... when friends text me
with a picture and ask me if I want the piece...

My friend's original photo

Of course I want it!

So I sent my husband and this piece came home for a makeover.

And this is how it began... As you can see... the top was ruined!

The first thing I had to do was to sand down the top.

I dragged the table outside and used my electric sander to
remove all the ugly chippy finish on the top.

It was better already...

Then came the paint job... A couple coats of
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® in Old White.  The brass
spindles were a mess so I painted right over them.
Love this paint!

Let me tell you it was not easy getting into the center of this table!

Now it was time to do something with the top
I chose General Finishes High Performance
Water Based Top Coat

This is my first attempt at using Top Coat and I'm glad I did because it ended up to be the best possible finish
for this beautiful table top.

The top coat went on smoothly and quickly.
It dried in minutes and was ready for the next coat.

The clean up was soap and water easy... it is a great
product and I will be using it again real soon!

Now the piece was ready for a little edge distressing
and a coat of clear wax over the white chalk paint®.

This table sure is an interesting piece
and I'm so thankful for the curb alert from Kathy!

  3. How very nice to have a friend like that! Your table turned out so well--it certainly is an interesting shape. I've been using General Finishes High Performance Topcoat in flat and like it very much. It keeps my chalky paint protected while maintaining the matte finish that I like.
