How to Paint an Ornate Mirror

This large ornate mirror was found at a garage sale and refinished in minutes for just pennies!

It is going to be perfect for my daughter's room, and look... she's texting helping!

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and just slopped it on right over the old chippy finish.

There was no need to prep the mirror other than to clean the wood with a little soap and a rag.

Paint it right into the cracks and then rub some off, it's really ok if you miss spots.

I would recommend using a wet sanding approach, rub it off with a wet rag as you paint the detail.

This way you are not damaging any of the details with sand paper.

It looks fabulous when you're finished!

Now it's ready to hang in this very helpful daughter's room!

Don't you just love to see them work for what they want?

  1. LOL! Been there, done that, Susan! Did she even realize it was done? : ) My son used to say he was keeping me company - that was his contribution. It turned out beautiful! That mirror was made to be white!

  2. What an awesome deal! It looks beautiful. Good Job!

  3. Dang, that was a steal of a deal! Great find and it looks awesome!

  5. OMGosh what a cute post! I have a 12 year old daughter, I can relate. What a great deal on the mirror, it turned out beautiful! My husband spotted a mirror similar to yours (beveled and a tad bigger) at the flea market. It was the end of the day so we got him down from his $60 asking price to only $20 since he didn't want to pack it back up. I used my AS paint, wax, and distressed and sold it at my booth for $165.
This is what keeps my stomach from hurting when I pay for the paint. lol

    Have a great week,

  6. What a score, Susan! That mirror is so pretty - you really got lucky!

  7. Lol! I'll bet she was texting her friends about the awesome mirror she just got. =) I love it and it's settled, I'm buying the Annie Sloan paint. Finally!
