What To Do With That Chippy Frame You Found

I got another curb alert this morning!

A text from a friend walking her dog at 6:30 am... "There is a great old frame in the trash on Smith Street"

Thank you! I'm there!

Only it wasn't so great... it was a mess!

The plaster detail on the frame was almost gone. It was dirty and wet, I think it had been left outside for a while.

But it had potential so I grabbed it.

I threw it in my car on the way to work without inspecting it very carefully and started out this project with a chippy white plaster mess all over my car.

When I got home from work I started working on it... I chipped off all the rest of the plaster.

I scraped, sanded, and then gave it a very light wash of Old White Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® to even out the color.

Next I gave the frame a coat of Miss Mustard Seed Tough Coat. This sealer will keep those beautiful chips from chipping any more than they already have.

I was seeing more than a glimmer of hope for this project.

I cut a piece of pre-made chalkboard to fit inside the frame and used my framing gun to secure the chalkboard.

The frame turned out gorgeous! It had just the right amount of chippiness and the thick ledge on this frame was perfect for holding chalk and an eraser!

As a matter of fact, I liked the frame so much I'm keeping it for my own home 😉

Keep those curb alerts coming friends and neighbors!
