How to Spruce up the Yard with Edging and Mulch

It's finally time on the East Coast... the weather is finally out of the 40's and with Memorial Day coming up I decided it was time to work in the yard.

It turned out to be the perfect day to do hard labor in the garden... a misty rain and about 75 degrees.

I began with this...

All the way around the deck there is English Ivy that has taken over.

I used an edging tool and the great step by step directions for edging the garden like a pro from my friend Donna at Funky Junk Interiors.

Donna's garden is gorgeous and though mine has a lot of ivy I followed her directions for a beautiful edge around the ivy.

Once I cut a channel I was ready to add the mulch.

I bought large bags of brown mulch from Home Depot for only $2.50 for a huge bag.

I scooped out large handfuls of the mulch and dropped it in the channel created with the edger.

Note to self... wear garden gloves next time... my hands and nails may be permanently brown.

A couple of hours later I was finished and the edging in the back yard and it looks beautiful.

I'm waiting for my plants to grow as I fill in spots with beautiful annuals.

Stay tuned as we transform the yard this summer with a brand new fence and plenty of gorgeous flowers in rusty, junky planters.
