How to Make a DIY Wall Mantel

The pieces of a broken antique piano I found one morning turned out to be so much fun.

I knew this piece had potential right away!

This is the piece that comes down over the keys...
I believe it is called a fall

It had 2 knobs on it already and a long "piano" hinge.

I secured the hinge so the pieces wouldn't move, then added a block to the back so the mantel would stand out from the wall.

(basically I made the whole piece so it wouldn't fold)

The paint is Annie Sloan chalk paint in Versailles, it is a pale green color and was brought to life with a finishing coat of dark wax.

A vintage metal handle added a little bling to the center.

The result is a beautiful 6' mantel to hang on the wall.
(or on a fence if you don't have any space left on your walls)

The way the pieces came together created the perfect channel at the top for plate display.

No fireplace? Living in an apartment?

A wall mantel like this would make a perfect display area.
