How to Decorate a Vintage Sled

One day last summer my daughter walked
up to the house pulling a sled.

I've taught them well... picking out of the garbage is not always a bad thing.

As you may have seen already, this Christmas sled is decorating our mantel.

I used Chalky Paint and a stencil and brought new life to this vintage sled.

I painted only the center boards, leaving all the old rusty,
vintage metal and red sideboards in their original condition.

A beautiful family heirloom for years to come.

Another treasured vintage sled is decorating our front door this holiday season.

I painted this 5' sled red then distressed the edges.

I'm using a string of rusty bells and the house number I purchased at Decor Steals to decorate the sled.

If you love old sleds and vintage junk like I do then please check out when I used the white sled on my mantel to create a vintage holiday scene!

  1. I love the red sled too. Haven't tried my Annie Sloane paint yet!

  2. I love sleds and yours are fantastic. They make wonderful Christmas decorations. Such lucky finds!

  3. I love how you dressed up your sleds! I picked up a couple over the summer. One I left as is and the other I painted red which was really out of character for me. It's on my porch.

  4. I just love a vintage sled incorporated into holiday vignettes. Your Let It Snow sled is gorgeous! They are so hard to find and I've been on the hunt for a few years now.

  5. I LOVE these. I've been looking for a vintage sled for the longest time. Perfect! Thanks for sharing at Vintage Inspiration Party, Susan.
