DIY Nautical Photo Frames

This unusual find was catching my eye at the thrift store...
so I bought 2.

The clips on this doohickey made me think of something I've wanted to make for a while.

I began by cutting 5 1/2 inch boards into squares.

I sanded each board then added one of the hooks from
the thrift store find to each board.

Each board was painted and stained with dark wax.

I used painter's tape to section off a space to add a stripe.

The stripe was an after thought... usually you would paint the stripe first and then wax.

But because I used chalk paint, the paint sticks to the wax.

I tied a nautical knot to each clip. The colors and the jute
reminds me of beachy, nautical decor.

Each board has a sawtoothed hanger on the back for hanging.

They can be hung alone or in a gallery display.

The vintage photos look gorgeous in their new frames.
