Antique Rocker with an Upholstery Webbing Seat

It's another day and once again I pulled a U turn
in the middle of the road on my way to work.

I noticed a pile of antique chairs by a tree that I could not pass up!

One of the chairs, an antique rocker, was in great shape
except for the wicker seat... it's hard to find a wicker seat around in tact anymore.

The rocker had been painted (badly I might add) with a light grey flat paint.

I thought the grey would make a good undercoat for the
Emperor's Silk Red I wanted to use.

I distressed the red chalk paint letting the grey shine through.

Red and grey... a great combination. (Think OSU)

Next I set to work on the seat.

I had 2 bolts of red and grey upholstery webbing in my stash that would be great for this job.

There are no pictures of the during because I was too busy
pulling my hair out!  This was NO job for amateurs!

If this wasn't my first attempt at re-webbing a seat, might have known that a stretcher was really what I needed to easily pull the webbing tight.

I could buy a $20 stretcher but the idea was to try it without one.

Don't get me wrong, the chair seat is great.

The webbing is strong. I used staples, glue, and upholstery tacks.

The seat isn't going anywhere.... but it was a huge job
that may have been easier with the right tools!

And now this cute little rocker with the new webbed
seat is finished... a big job but a big save from the land fill
and that's what counts!.
