Repurposed Thrift Store Chicken

When is a chicken not a chicken...

Overlook the chicken for just a minute and notice the frame.

This is not a frame that comes apart, the chicken is painted right in the center of this piece.

And the tag... don't even think I paid $4.99 for it.

It was 1/2 price day at the thrift store.

When is a chicken not a chicken?

When it is a beautiful new chalkboard!

I gave the center of this oval piece a good sanding then a couple coats of chalkboard paint.

I added a metal number for decoration and that's it!

Sometimes you just have to look beyond the chickens.

  1. yep - gorgeous! Altho - chickens are a 'hit' too - kinda the 'french country' thing. so that one might have been a little harder for me to paint over. but it does indeed make a lovely chalkboard.

  2. I love an easy chalkboard! :)
I find that chalkboards are more difficult to sell now that so many people are making their own. What do you think?

  3. Oooohhh!!! I like this. It has so much more character than other upcycled chalkboard items I've seen. The little number tag is a nice touch! Sooo...what chicken?
