Painting a Hutch and a Grown up Playdate

Painting a piece of furniture to match other pieces in the room can be a challenge.

Today I was on a grown up after school playdate with my friend and fellow preschool teacher.

I was helping her match an old hutch to her current dining room table and chairs.

The old hutch was scratched and damaged but I knew we could paint it and hopefully match the color and patina to the dining set she already had.

The chairs were a deep black with distressed edges and using Fusion Mineral Paint in Coal Black we were able to replicate the finish exactly.

I love working with Fusion Mineral paint. We gave the hutch a quick sanding, the finish was old and not too shiny so a quick sanding was all the prep needed before painting.

I rubbed a wax puck on the edges of the furniture which made distressing the piece a cinch.

Two coats of the coal black covered this piece in no time.

The paint dried in a very short time then a quick sanding on the edges brought out the brown which matched the dining set exactly!

We arranged all of my friend's beautiful china back into the cabinet and the dining room looked gorgeous!

We were finished in just a couple of hours and had time to sit at the table and enjoy pizza and wine on our grown up playdate.
