But definitely not when you can make it look like this! 

One of my favorite cutting boards snapped in half the other day.

So I did what I do and saved the pieces. 

I had an idea to create a shelf using the pieces of this cutting board and here is what I did...

First I sanded the broken edges with an electric sander to make them smooth. 

Next, using wood glue I attached the two pieces together.

I used clamps to hold the glued edges tight then used 2 old hinges to act as a bracket in the back for support.

I painted the cutting board with a chalky white paint then sanded it heavily with the electric sander to distress the paint and let the wood and the cuts shine through. 

I added a Vintage Sign stencil by Angie at Knick of Time to the back of the shelf.
