How to Make a Wooden Wine Barrel Footed Tray

Sometimes a thrift store find just needs a tiny tweak to make it perfect!

This tray was beautiful when I found it, great wrought iron handles and a beautiful wine barrel image.

But I had an idea to make it even better!

At one time I found a whole bag of wooden candle holders.

I knew when I found them they would make great bun feet someday.

Today was that day, I added 4 to the bottom of this tray using wood glue and screws.

You can see the very light finish this tray had when I found it in this photo.

My next step was to paint the entire bottom of the tray black.

When the bottom was dry I used my new favorite antiquing stain over the top of the tray.

I recently found a product made by Fusion Mineral Paint called Antiquing Tough Coat. It is a stain and matte sealer in one and is a gorgeous color! Check with your nearest Fusion Mineral Paint dealer for more information.
