How to Paint a Canvas Open Sign
When I opened a new room at the antique store, to celebrate I created a canvas open sign for my room.
Business was booming and I moved from a little nook in the wall to a full fledged room.
I thought a vintage looking open sign would be adorable.
1. I began with a length of drop cloth fabric.
The size of the fabric you will need will depend on your needs.
I used a piece of fabric that was the width of a wooden hanger and about 3' long.
No need to hem the fabric, the frayed look is best!
2. I painted the fabric with Chalky Paint.
The color is up to you, just give it several coats and let it dry between coats.
3. The stencil.
In the morning when the paint was dry, I traced fun lettering in a font called Showboat onto the canvas then colored it in with a Sharpie paint marker.
I printed out the lettering on my computer then using carbon paper between the paper and the canvas, traced the lettering onto the canvas.
4. The hanger...
The finished sign hung from a vintage hanger and announced to all that my new little room was OPEN!
I just looped the top of the canvas over the bar in the hanger and hot glued it from the back.
Love it? Take a look at the American Flag hanging canvas sign too!
Funny story... I was out shopping in a little shop near my house recently and I saw the same sign on the door of a shop, someone liked it enough to make the same one for their shop!
