How to Create a Farmhouse Kitchen Chalkboard
Here is the mirror I've had for a while. It's been painted a few different colors but now is repurposed into the perfect farmhouse kitchen chalkboard.
I did this makeover in a round-about way... not knowing what I wanted to create until I got started.
My first thought was to add a box to the front of the mirror... a flower box style that could create storage on the mirror.
The base is a piece from an small curio cabinet I disassembled. On this base I built a box with scrap wood.
I attached the box and the base to the bottom of the mirror using screws, nails and wood glue.
As I said this project took on several changes as I proceeded.
At first I began by painting the whole piece white...
I wasn't happy with the weight of the old mirror so I changed my plans mid-way removing the mirror from the back of the frame and replacing it with a piece of pre-made chalkboard instead.
Turns out this was the perfect touch!
I finished off the piece by adding knobs to the base, the perfect place to hang a leash, keys or a tea towel.
A quick distressing of the edges was all I needed to finally finish off this beautiful farmhouse kitchen chalkboard.
