Creating a Vintage Looking Laundry Sign

It's a new day and I'm making another sign but this one
is not made on old wood, look closely,
it's actually brand new wood.

This sign is new but made to look old with a few easy steps.

I started out by making a few holes and dents in this large board with a screwdriver.

Next I stained the wood with >>>>>>> .

When the stain dried I painted a quick coat of green chalky paint over the stain. I did a quick coat because I wanted the stained wood to show at the corners and through the paint.

I'm using a portion of this Laundry stencil made by Old Sign Stencils by Funky Junk Interiors. The stencil is huge and so sturdy! I'm only using the letters that spell LAUNDRY for this project.

I used spray adhesive to stick the stencil to the board. I find that using the spray adhesive helps keep the stencil in place. I'm using a foam pouncer to apply white paint on the stencil, then lift up the stencil when finished.

The brand new wood looks like an old vintage sign now. The dark stain showing through the paint and the uneven patina on the lettering makes the sign look old and worn.

Now I just have to work on the laundry room!

  1. Susan, love the signs. The one you made for the garden with legs made of old wooden pieces is my favorite of yours. Thanks for the info.
