Vintage Book Page Trunk
I found a trunk on the side of the road....
There is this junk guy on my way to work and he is always throwing out something good.
Today there was an old trunk in front of his house but it sure didn't look like this!
The "before" trunk was broken in a few places and very stained.
After screwing it together and adding legs, I painted the trunk light blue.
These "legs" were large spindles that I cut down and painted to match the trunk.
Using a product called Decou-Page by Deco Art I decoupaged book pages from a vintage New York Times book onto the trunk.
I love this product, it works fantastic for decoupaging. I can't wait to use it again!
The spaces between the ribs on this trunk seemed like the perfect place for a little vintage interest.
When the Decou-Page dried I coated the whole trunk with
I love this finish, it goes on smoothly and cleans up with water.
I use it on so many projects!
The matte varnish protects the project without leaving a shiny finish.
I painted the inside of the trunk with a beige color that
compliments the vintage book pages.
Don't you just love the sections inside? I'm thinking
blankets, video games, or just a place to hide the mess when guests are visiting!
I sewed around the edges of a printable vintage hang tag that matches the book page color, it hangs from the handle.
This trunk would make a great coffee table with a ton of storage!
Some times I just want to drop off the finished
piece back where I found it. I'd love for the junk guy
to see what he throws away.
Wasn't that a show once? If it wasn't, it should be!
I bet that junk guy would be surprised to see it now.

He should be flabbergasted! What a beautiful and thoughtful transformation, love the colors and the vintage book pages. You've turned it into something really unique. The coffee table in our family room is a "trunk", more like a cedar chest, that we store tons of blankets in. Never enough storage I always say! xoKathleen
ReplyDeleteOh Susan this turned out so cool! We have a 'Treasure House' as we call it in our Path too. I don't know about a Movie but I do know there is not a lot of DIY on the Networks, it just seems like there is more about re~doing a entire home than individual items. Enjoy your New Table!

wow, incredible....Gotta love that junk guy! lol...I love the color you choose with the newspaper....what an idea!
ReplyDeleteI remember that show! They would take stuff from the curb and redo it, then return it.
ReplyDeleteGood job, Susan! Loved your hanging basket too!
nice job Susan! Love the new look, and the sweet little feet. :)
ReplyDeleteI found a similar style wooden box that has the raised wooden strips on the top. I was going to either take them off or cover them up with some boards. Never thought to add something to the middle of them. Your trunk turned out super cute! Great inspiration!
