How to Decoupage with Sewing Patterns

I tried this decoupage technique once and
I couldn't wait to try it again!

How to Decoupage with Sewing Patterns

Vintage sewing pattern decoupage... who knew?

I tried it on this fun project and just knew I needed to do it again!

Today I'm redoing an old step stool I made a while back that used an old sign as the top of the stool.

Today I'm decoupaging it with a vintage sewing pattern I found at the thrift store.

I began by cutting pieces out of an old dress pattern

I wanted the printed parts of the pattern to show so I arranged small cut pieces of the pattern all over the top of the stool.

I coated the top of the stool with Mod Podge then set the pieces down in the glue and smoothed them flat.

You can also use a paint brayer to smooth the paper.

When the pieces were assembled where I wanted them, I coated the top with another coat of Mod Podge and let it dry.

The corners are just wrapped around like a bed sheet and the pattern was cut off to fit the edges of the stool.

When the Mod Podge was dry I painted the top of the stool with Fusion Tough Coat and painted the bottom of the stool black.
