Vintage Kitchen Strainer Birds Nest for Spring

I just got the greatest stash of vintage kitchen items in the world and I couldn't wait to get started repurposing it!
Vintage Kitchen items

Deep inside this box of the most perfectly rusted and chipped vintage kitchen items were a few small old strainers.

I set my sights on up-cycling these treasures first.

I just love working with vintage kitchen items, you can read about several I made by visiting the bold link.

And see those vintage clothespins?

They are now my favorite carrots for Easter!!

I began by bending each one to a 90 degree angle.

Next, I grabbed a piece of fence picket I found on the side of the road and cut it to size.

I painted the board white with a coat of DecoArt chalk paint

I used an old paintbrush and gave it one quick sloppy coat because the next step will be to sand off some of the paint, especially around the edges.

Now I was ready to create a nest.

I had an old pre-made nest that I stuck into the old strainer with hot glue.

I added a few neutral colored speckled eggs and a buffalo check ribbon.

One screw and a little hot glue hold the strainer to the distressed picket.

 How adorable is this nest?!!

This was so quick and easy I immediately whipped up another, smaller nest.

This time I used a flat piece of the picket, painted it white, distressed it and hung a much smaller strainer on the board.

This little nest was made with crinkled paper and filled with speckled eggs

I screwed it to the board then covered the screw with the leaf of a speckled egg pick.

Ya know I'll be making several more and I'm hoping to add them to my Etsy shop soon
