Make a Vintage Stand for a Wooden Sign
I'm making a ton of new signs lately so I thought
I would add a new spin to this one.
I would add a new spin to this one.
First, I created the sign with a stencil I bought from the Silhouette store using my Cameo cutting machine.
When the paint dried I stained the sign with an antiquing medium.
You can read all about the the sign making process here.
Next, I created a stand using an antique chippy spindle.
I made a square base then screwed and wood glued the spindle to the back of my sign.
I chose a color that was a close match to the vintage green in the spindle to use on the base and on the lettering in my sign .
I love the way it turned out,
it gives my sign whole a new twist!

HI Susan! I am obsessed with the lantern! Where did you find it? I see them all over Pinterest, but can't find them online or in stores? Thanks! Happy New Year, laura
ReplyDeleteHi Laura,
DeleteThe lantern came from the thrift store I believe. There is a similar one from Yankee Candle.
Very nice reveal! Love the letters!
ReplyDeleteThank you Maria, this was a fun one to make!
DeleteI think this is one of the loveliest signs I've ever seen! Do you remember the paint color you used to make the sign?
ReplyDeleteHi Handan, I believe this was a green chalkboard paint I bought at Michaels. Pretty sure it was Deco art or Folk Art. It is also stained over with a matte antiquing gel. Hope that helps! Thanks so much for visiting!!
DeleteWhat a lovely sign! Love the color and the chippy paint. Looks like the color matched up perfectly. I have a basket full of precious spindle that I've been holding on to. This would be a great way to use some of them up. Now if I can just achieve the chippy paint look.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Linda! The best way I know to achieve the chippy look is with Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint :)
