How to Make a Burlap Vase for Flowers
Stiffened burlap fabric can be used to create a beautiful rustic Spring vase for flowers.
It is the 10th of the month and that means it's time to share my project along with the projects of my crafty friends.
The theme is Spring and you can find the links to their projects at the bottom of this post!

First I wiped the jar down with a light coat of baby oil so the fabric would not stick to the jar.
I wrapped the burlap around the jar being careful to create even folds of fabric then secured it with rubber bands.
I trimmed the burlap with scissors so there was a straight edge along the top.
Next I painted the burlap with Fusion Mineral Paint's Ultra Grip. You can also use Matte Modge Podge.
Besides helping paint stick to shiny surfaces, Ultra Grip is great for stiffening fabric and for decoupage.
I let the burlap fabric dry overnight, removed the rubber bands then slid off the jar and painted the inside of the burlap vase.
I let it dry once again overnight.
The next step was to tie a ribbon with a bow around the burlap.
Then fill the burlap vase with your choice of flowers.
Check at the bottom of the post for flower suggestions.
I chose to use faux flowers but if you wish to use fresh flowers just drop a glass inside the burlap vase.
This was a very easy project and can be done with any type of thick fabric. The burlap worked especially well.
And now for the Spring projects from my friends!

DeleteI've always wondered how to do this. I thought they were washed in starch or something. I love me some mod podge and this project. Next on my to do list! It's so cute! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure you could soak fabric in starch and do the same thing!
DeleteWhat a great idea, especially for a quick gift...I can also imagine this made out of cute floral fabric . Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteLove this project, going to make one, but I also the the hand wondering where I could get one or make one? Thanks again for the inspiration
ReplyDeleteHi Denice! I got the hand at Decorsteals.com They will probably have it again soon!
DeleteThat is such a clever idea Susan. It looks great. I remember when my mom used to crochet things and then add a sugar water solution to make shapes out of it. I don't remember if any ants came to visit. Mod Podge is a much better option.
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable. It's such a good idea. I'll have to give it a try.
