Last week we had a blizzard on the East Coast which meant 2 snow days off from school and  project time for Homeroad!

With over a foot of snow there was nothing to do but create!

Using what I had in my workshop thrift store stash I built a fun organizer for jewelry.

I cut the top off the wooden curtain tieback then using Gorilla wood glue and my Ryobi nail gun nailed the bowl to the top of the pedestal.

If you are a thrift store junkie like I am you see these all the time.

These mail sorters or whatever are all over the thrift stores and repurposing these old wooden relics is fun and can even be profitable. 

This piece began as an old maple, chipped, worn piece that was selling for $2.00
I painted this piece with Pure White Annie Sloan Chalk Paint®.
though even an inexpensive chalky paint or one you make yourselfworks fine on these up-cycled projects.

This piece is now totally acceptable to hang in a kitchen or office to sort mail, coupons or to organize photos. 
A little paint goes a long way and can easily and inexpensively transform an unwanted item into one you would love for your home.

The thrift store find I'm showing you today was found way before Christmas but I had so many posts to write with a Christmas deadline, I saved this one for right before Christmas. 
This post is to show you that no matter what it is, if it at the thrift store, if it catches your eye and looks interesting, grab it! After Christmas when you're back out at the thrift stores, keep your eyes open! 
You can always add paint and you never know what you can do with it when you get home... like this...

Do you know what you're looking for when you go thrifting? Sometimes I do and sometimes I just browse.  Yesterday I was browsing and came across an excellent find that just needed one small tweak! 

My mission this week is to get the deck ready for Spring. 
We've had a couple of beautiful days so I decided to take a thrift store trip to see if there was anything I could get to repurpose for the deck. 
I found a couple of interesting items but one very ugly piece caught my eye. 
It was big enough to use as a plant stand on the deck but definitely needed a makeover!

I found this large pumpkin at the thrift store for $1.00. It was cute already but with one simple fix I like it even better!

Here's an easy farmhouse update for a tired old thrift store basket. 

The old basket began life looking like this... 



It had great moveable handles but didn't have much else that made it special. Today I'm going to make it a little more awesome by using a simple flower stencil from Old Sign Stencils.


I taped the stencil to the basket and using a foam pouncer, stenciled using black paint onto the basket. Because of the rough basket weave, I needed to grab a small stiff brush and get down inside the weave with the black paint. 


When I removed the stencil, my basket was already looking great! 

My $2 thrift store basket was ready to fill with flowers and look so much better in just minutes. 

This is where this project started.
