Garden Tote with Style

I pulled over to rescue this 80's beauty this weekend
and you won't believe what it looks like now!

The uses for this tote are endless but the garden is where I'm choosing to display today...

I started out by filling all the holes in the wood where the box was assembled.

I then gave the box a good sanding and a coat of Paris Grey Annie Sloan Chalk Paint
then sanded the edges to give it a distressed look.

On one side I added a handle to hang a towel and on the other side of the box I created a canvas pocket and attached it using screws to hold seed packets or papers.

I used an old curtain rod hanger to hold the string on the inside of the tote...

and added a chalkboard to the side.

The finished tote is so useful in the garden or for crafts, office supplies, knitting, or even in the kitchen.

The 80's never looked so good!

  1. That looks great, Susan! A nice new life for this old tote. A garden tote like this certainly would have come in handy for me at our old house. I can't tell you how many times I would have to walk back to the shed or garage to get some twine or a different tool. It would be so convenient to just put everything in one carrier and bring it around the garden.

  8. I like how you camouflaged those "dead-giveaway" heart cut-outs. I won't be so inclined to steer clear of these dated items in the future when I find them at thrift stores. Thanks for the idea.
