Table Drawer with a Music Page Liner

This little oak table was left standing alone
at the end of the flea market with a sign that said FREE...

Never wanting to pass up a bargain I gave the table a new home.

The table was unpainted with stains everywhere!

The drawer was broken so the first step was to repair
the drawer by cutting a piece of Masonite to fit inside.

The dove tailed drawer had a slot for the new
drawer bottom so it slid right in.

I gave the top of the table a coat of shellac so any stains on this
old table would not find their way through the chalk paint.

I painted the table Old White with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint
but wasn't wild about the table being all white so I re-painted
the top with Duck Egg Blue and it was a good choice.

When the Duck Egg dried I sanded the
edges for a distressed look. I like the way the white
and the original wood color shows through on the edges.

I waxed the table with clear wax and already loved the table.

The next step was to use
by Deco Art
to decoupage hymnal pages to the inside of the drawer.

When the Decou-Page dries it leaves
a beautiful matte finish.  You can also buy
Decou-Page in several other finishes including
one that is great for outdoors.

I replaced the original old knobs on the drawer because they
were heavy brass and had a great patina.

The free table was well worth the trouble to fix it up.
It is old, well made and a table that
now looks like a rock star!
