DIY Decoupaged Summer Firecracker Blocks

It's Summertime again and making red, white, and blue decorations for the Fourth is my favorite craft.

It is time for Ten on the 10th and our theme is Fourth of July!

Ten on the Tenth DIY Summer collage

This patriotic project began with leftover 1" x 1" oak trim pieces and little fabric flags like the ones the politicians hand out at parades. 🇺🇸

You can find flags like this at the Dollar Tree.

First, I cut the wood into blocks the length of the flags, about 6".

You can find small American flags by following this link.

Next, I removed the flag from the stick and wrapped it around three sides of the wooden block.

I attached the flags to the blocks with Matte Mod Podge, first under the flag and then on top.

When the Mod Podge dried I trimmed any overhanging flag fabric with scissors.

I painted the 4th side of the block and both ends with red and blue craft paint then let it dry by the fan.

After the paint dried I drilled holes in the top of the blocks and glued in small pieces of wooden skewers with wood glue.

I painted the blocks with a coat of clear satin sealer then when it dried went over it again with light stain to give the firecrackers a vintage look.

You can use a glossy sealer to make your firecrackers shiny too!

To make sparklers at the top of the firecrackers, I cut small rectangles of glittered card stock.

I cut little slits along one end then wrapped it around a toothpick and glued it closed.

I love the look of these fun firecrackers!

They are going to make adorable decorations around the house this summer.
