Make Your Own Buffalo Check Mason Jar Crate

This project has gone to the dogs!

I began with half a wooden crate, yes I said half.

I used the other half on another project so I had half left and nothing around here goes to waste.

I attached the half crate to a wooden board with wood glue and nails then painted it white.

Next I added just a couple of rows of stenciled buffalo check using the small buffalo check stencil from Old Sign Stencils

I used a sponge pouncer to reach inside the crate, a stencil brush would have been too tall to stencil inside.

I also used the sponge pouncer to sponge along the top of the crate back to give it a shadowed look.

A few of my favorite things came together in this project: buffalo check, vintage blue mason jars, and my new puppy Finn ❤️.

I keep the puppy's dog treats in vintage blue mason jars and to give them a little style, I added buffalo check lid inserts.

I traced the lids onto buffalo check scrapbook paper and cut out the circles.

The top of the blue mason jars match the back of the crate!

Now the puppy treats have their own little decorative buffalo check crate with my favorite blue mason jars.

And Finn couldn't be happier!

  4. Why not stencil the back board before attaching it to the half crate ? Seems like that would be easier than attaching the board first. Very cute idea either way.

    1. Yep that is a great suggestion... I had already made the crate when I was trying to decide what to do with the back. I decided on the stencil at the last minute so I had no other choice than to do it after. Thanks!
