This project began when I cleaned out the basement  last weekend.

Do you love the look of floating shelves? Today we are going to show you how to make floating shelves and a home office area easily and inexpensively using IKEA supplies!

I'm repurposing one of the tiered shelves from the Target dollar spot. I think we all have one or at least I see a ton of them in the thrift stores.

I think my new favorite place is the dollar store. I feel a little better about visiting the dollar store during these times than the thrift stores. I find something new and fun to repurpose every time I go and today is no different!

It's Pinterest to the rescue once again as my newlywed daughter and her handsome husband searched storage options for their new apartment.

Where have you been Homeroad?
It's been weeks since my last post, it's been a hot summer and well frankly, I've been totally unmotivated.
Here's a project I've had on the back burner for a while now and if you're a fan of argyle you'll love this one. 
The best part is that this project can be used several ways!

Here is a display shelf I'm working on right now... I didn't get the "before" shot because frankly sometimes.

Recently on a trip to the thrift store I found a set of the cutest round boxes with lids. I don't expect anyone to find the same ones I did but I'm sharing ideas to transform what might work in your space to something that will work! 

At one point I changed Grandma's  china cabinet into a piece of furniture for the TV...

Here it is after I decided not to use the glass doors...

I found a cute set of round wooden boxes with lids at the thrift store recently. 
I stained the boxes and gave them knobs for handles but then realized I could do more. 
Using a fun tin ceiling tile from the dollar store and gave these cute little boxes an easy and amazing makeover!

A shutter shelf with vintage style.


Don't throw away those old shutters you find on the side of the road... 
or the ones that used to be on your windows.... 
they can have a new life.



I come across old shutters all the time... and here is what I do with them...

I began by adding 2 shelves with a piece of molding underneath for a bracket. 
I screwed the shelves to the shutter from under the shelf and from the back. 
When the shelves were secured I painted the entire piece with Fusion Mineral Paint in Lily Pond. 
Fusion Mineral Paint is great for my projects. 
Requires no sanding or priming and the best part is there is no need to seal the paint. 


When the paint was dry I distressed using fine sandpaper. 
Aged clothespins hold notes and photos to the shutters.

If you have an old basement with the laundry downstairs like me, you may want ideas to update and refresh your space.  This project has been on my mind for years and now that I finally got around to it, I am thrilled! 

We live in a 60 year old colonial with a basement that we never refinished.
My laundry and my workshop are in the basement so I spend a lot of time down there.
