Driftwood Buoy Stump House Number
Imagine if you will, a 50 something, grown man rolling a 3' high, 100+ lb. driftwood stump down the beach.
I told my husband that I had a great idea for it.
I wanted to turn this stump into a buoy with our house number on it!
He must have liked my idea or he never would have lugged this huge thing home.

My dear husband informed me that in his younger days, he could have thrown this onto his shoulder and carried it off the beach.
Thankfully, rolling it down the beach worked best in this case.
As soon as this huge stump made its way into my garage, I began to work some magic on it.
First, I taped off 2 areas with painter's tape to paint the stripes.
I gave the stump a black stripe around the center and painted the top white using a matte chalk paint.
This flat area is what inspired this project in the first place.
I printed and cut out the number 12 for my house number using a box cutter.
I gave the back of the stencil a spritz of spray adhesive to help it stick and stuck the number to the stump.
I used black craft paint to stencil the number.
You could also wrap the stump in thick rope for another nautical look.
(no, only kidding!)
My husband loves it so I guess it was worth rolling it all the way down the beach.
You can see one of the updates to this project that was done after the paint began to fade.
Here is another fun idea using a large piece of driftwood.
The only thing my husband would have been rolling was his eyes!! We live near Lake Michigan and several times I have wanted to drag something home like large limbs, but we are usually too far away to bring it home. Love what you did with your stump, defiantly worth rolling home. Stop by if you get a chance and see the lake today, Laura
ReplyDeleteHi Susan,
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about you and your beach finds yesterday - we were down at Piper's Cove on Vancouver Island and I was walking along looking at all the interesting pieces and thinking - hmmmm, what would Susan do with that? I brought a few home but I'm afraid I'm not sure yet what they want to be!
