Here's an easy American flag project that can be done in no time!


This project began with an old wooden crate. You can buy them at antique stores or flea markets. You may even have a few in the garage like I did. 





I used Fusion Mineral Paints for this project because I use them on everything. Liberty Blue and York Red were perfect Americana colors for my flag.
I found the perfect flag stencils on Amazon. The stencils came in a pack with stars and flags in several different sizes and the cost was great. This one was the perfect size for this crate. 
This part literally took minutes. I used an old brush, not a stencil brush, and just gave a quick swipe of paint along the stripes.
For the blue field I used a small stencil brush, making sure to get that tiny line that borders the stars.

My advice for today is to never throw out an old wooden roller shade, especially the ones with the larger slats. 
I have made a ton of projects using just one broken wooden roller shade including the fun patriotic one today!

Sometimes I just like to create from things I have around the house.  Today I'm making a stenciled American flag project made with found objects!  DIY Fourth of July decorations are my favorite this time of the year! 

Here's an easy one that combines my love of decorating the garden with the Summer holidays. These easy American flag plant stakes use picket fence scraps.

This project started because I'm trying to use what I have and I had all the supplies needed at home right now. 

Here is a fun and easy project for summer decorating.  The supplies came from the Dollar Tree and you're going to want to fill it with flowers for the summer! 

You've heard of American flag t-shirts I'm sure...
But have you heart of a t-shirt American flag?

Well you have now and I'm gong to show you how to create this easy DIY flag project. First you begin with old t-shirts, one red and one white. I pulled mine out of the donation box in the basement... repurposing at it's finest! 
I cut off the shirts about 7" up from the hem then cut strips about 1 1/2" wide in both colors. I stretched each strip until they curled a little bit.  At the same time I was also staining and distressing an old board. I made mine rectangular, you could also make it a square. Use the scraps you may already have.


Next using a staple gun, I stapled the t-shirt strips onto the bottom of the board.  I tied knots in the bottom of the strips at varying l…

I always like a challenge and trying new crafts so I couldn't wait to use this large piece of corrugated metal. 

I found this piece at Tuesday Morning and it was pretty cheap, about $6.00 so I thought it would be a great pallet for a project I had in mind. 
I wanted to make an American Flag on this piece and given that it is corrugated, it almost looked striped already. 

I started out by taping-off the stripes using 1" thick Frog Tape. I actually find that Frog Tape works better than any of the other painter's tapes to get a clean line. 

I painted between the stripes with a couple of coats of white paint and when it dried I removed the tape.


I actually almost stopped right there... 
I loved the neutral look of the galvanized steel and the white.

Oops I did it again! I repurposed another old piece of wall art. 
I had a long horned bull picture that used to belong to my daughter hanging in the basement. It had faded and now it was a pink long horned bull. 
I knew I should hang on to it because one of these days I was going to repurpose this pink bull and today is that day!

Today I'm taking an old thrift store basket and turning it into a beautiful painted flag basket for the Fourth of July.

I love to decorate with American flags, I think it reminds me of holidays, our great country, and being off for the summer. 

Sometimes one project becomes another. 
If I don't sell, or I have no use for a project, I usually recycle it. 
I use many of the things I made for my house and in the past sold things in my little shop space. 
This is true with today's project, it was too cute to throw away so I am recycling it for a completely different use and surprise, no Christmas today!
