Repurposed Cabinet Door Tray
Right now I'm working on decorating my guest room on the cheap!
My children are finally ready to fly the nest and I'm ready to repurpose those rooms!
Today I'm using an old cabinet door with a very simple makeover with just a few supplies I had at home. I'm sharing what I used, what worked and a funny story about what I found.

First, I grabbed one of the cabinet door samples I was lucky enough to acquire from a cabinet door store that was closing! Yes, lucky me and I made about a zillion projects from the doors and knobs they gave me.

So originally I screwed the large handles I got from Home Depot onto the sides. I loved the texture of the inside of this door but I was less than thrilled with this simple makeover so I took off the handles and got fancy. Well, not too fancy.
When I buy these handles I usually get a ton of them because they are great for so many projects!
I attempted to do the oven cleaner stripping process that everyone is doing on the internet but I don't think it worked as well as I had hoped. I removed the handles and sprayed the whole cabinet door with Easy Off oven cleaner.
I left the oven cleaner on the cabinet for about 5 hours then scrubbed it and washed it off in the slop sink. I used the "no fumes" version because I was working indoors in the workshop.
When I dried off the door it had removed some of the finish but not as much as I had hoped. Maybe I needed to leave it on longer? Maybe overnight? I don't know but I grabbed the electric sander and had at it with a medium grit sandpaper.
The results with the sanding were much better!
Next, I used a beautiful green color from Fusion Mineral Paint called Hazelwood. You could use any kind of paint for this project once you sand and remove the finish.
I gave the tray a final coat of matte spray paint to make it durable and that was it!
On the back of the tray I used a thick wallpaper scrap and felt feet to finish it off and hide the cabinet door look. By the way this wallpaper is amazing!

I now had a tray for the dresser in the guest room that looked amazing with the boho vibe I have going in there.

An easy makeover! Cabinet doors are easy to find at thrift stores, the side of the road and Habitat for Humanity stores.

I found it on the side of the road while out walking. The funny story is how I tossed this 50 lb. mirror into the bushes so nobody else would see it before I went back and got my car!
Everything else on the dresser was thrifted and I made the knobs match the mirror with a little Rub and Buff gold leaf.
